Report written by Norwich runner
So sometimes facing the thought of parkrun is just too much! So Jess and I decided to take on some litter picking down by the UEA boardwalk.
Armed with litter picker (well random grabber thing we had!) and some duck pellets we headed out.
At 10:30am we started and found lots of rubbish not only in the riverbank but floating in the river itself. It was useful to have the grabber to reach out into the water.
Jess was surprised that there was so much plastic including lots of Lucozade bottles. She soon got the hang of the grabber whilst I was on bag carrying duties. I told her about how much litter we collect at Goodgym sometimes and some of the random things - we then stumbled across a child's bike and saw a green litter bin actually in the river.
It was really lovely to meet another young family doing the same thing as us. Also many big grown ups said good morning and thanked us for our efforts - I said "people can see that we care, even if other people don't and drop rubbish".
Along our walk we met many lovely dogs but
We also saw -
Grey Heron, Cormorant, Kingfisher, Robin, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Buzzards, Seagull, Little Grebe & Great Crested Grebe
It was a lovely two hours being outside, doing good and holding onto each others coats so we didn't plop into the river! We treated ourselves to lunch at Kofra at the Sainsburys Centre for Visual Arts - Yum!
When so much work has gone into developing the area it felt good to give it a bit of a tidy up. A few weeks back I was running straight towards an Otter on the boardwalk! It is an important place to look after!
