Strong and Table
After a warm up where we also discussed the top places we'd like to visit - Egypt, Bali, Costa Rica, Japan and California all made the list - we headed for our task at the William Hogarth school. Our local schools are struggling to cope with budget cuts currently, so they are relying increasingly on volunteers to help bridge the gaps.
It was a short run there so we took it at a good pace, and arrived to find Avril, the headteacher, waiting for us with some heavy lifting jobs. The idea is that the children are to take advantage of the sunny days and eat their lunch outside, so our task was to move some very heavy picnic tables into a suitable position.
It seemed an easy enough job. Until the lifting bit. The brightly painted rainbox tables were not as light as they looked! Starting with three people per table and increasingly subbing in GoodGymers we eventually shifted all four tables into position - aside from one moment of flagrant dissent from one naughty group which was sorted out by the the well behaved group. Gold stars for you guys ;)
Our next job was to shift some pingpong tables, which really tested our upper body strength, but proved no match for the might of GG. Great work everybody.
We took a longer route back to base to up the mileage and tackled a tough fitness session which alternated conditioning exercises with cardio - so drills like sprints and high knees followed inchworms and press ups. To finish off the night we did our minute of planking and a good long stretching session where super flexible Luis showed us how it's done. Well done everybody - same again next week! Until then, well done on those getting PBs, coming to group runs for the first time, clocking up the training miles - and good luck to Remy for her marathon this weekend! Run happy, everyone.
