Report written by Anastasia Hancock (she/her)
Last night our task was to help out an amazing charity, That's A Wrap, by writing gift cards for presents going to kids who otherwise wouldn't receive one at Christmas.
We started off the night by saying a big well done to
and reminded everybody that
finishing off the newsy part of the evening by saying
We had a bit of a upside down start to the session, kicking off with a warm up where we discussed when we were going to put up our trees. Out of 18 of us, only two has taken the plunge - c'mon everybody, the countdown has begun!
We jogged gently over to the park and warmed up with a little sprinting game with forfeits such as jumping jacks and squat jumps, before moving into the tough fitness part of the evening. The challenge was to pair up and complete 100 squat jumps, 100 lunges, 100 jumping jacks, and 50 burpees as a team - the catch being that only one of the team could be doing the exercises while the other was running. This was no easy test of fitness, but you gave it maximum effort. Well done everyone!
We headed back in to the warmth of the Town Hall as Saba, the founder of That's A Wrap, arrived with a big pile of leaflets and lots of tags for us to address. She explained that over 8,600 children are living in poverty in Hounslow and many of them won't receive a present this Christmas. Her charity collects donations for a local child who would otherwise go without this Christmas. So the GoodGym elves got stuck straight in to writing gift tags as beautifully and creatively as possible, even adding a bit of artwork! There were some imaginative messages - Kate went for Christmas song lyrics, Will advised them to eat ALL the mince pies, and Jen sent regards from Santa and the elves.
After half an hour of writing, we braved the cold again as we went out to deliver leaflets to spread the word about the drive and hopefully get people to donate for this brilliant cause. It was speed delivering, and over just 20 minutes we covered 3km worth of houses. Great running!
Keep warm this week, GoodGym, and don't forget to warm up properly before your runs as cold muscles can easily injure! Well done for a great night's GoodGyming, I reckon you're all on the 'nice' list. Especially if you sign up for next week's run!
EDIT Stop press!****
I've just received an email from Saba, founder of That's A Wrap to tell us the amazing news that last night after we leafleted somebody anonymously donated £500 to the charity. She can't be sure it's related, but either way it's fantastic news!
