With blue skies and beautiful sun, it was time for another Sunday goodgym at Stargarallot community gardens.

Today, we had three eager volunteers to help with a couple of tasks in preparation for the good food Cardiff autumn festival next week.

The task.

  • Move the bench from in front of the shed over to a space ready for Camilla to start painting it
  • Collect the two (heavy) benches from the top plot and bring in front of the shed
  • Move the third (heavy) bench from its current location to join the new seating area
  • Weed the main gravel path
  • Top up the gravel to 'spruce' up the area - ready to celebrate.

Not to waste and time, and not wanting to end up 'benched' for bad behaviour the three goodgymers got to work.

Teamwork makes the dream work

With Michelle on trolley duty, Karolina and Michael were the muscles lifting the surprisingly heavy seats up and out of the sea of nettles. Trying hard not to take out trees or a shed or two, the trolley was manoeuvred back to make placing the bench in the new position as easy as possible. Two more trips, the last swapping Karolina and Michelle around for some lifting work, and we were ready to test out the new seating area.

Breaks over

To the path! Wheelbarrows for plants as we pulled them out of the ground, a rake to level off the gravel as it flew all around and finally another barrow being filled with new gravel. 5 Wheelbarrows of gravel later and a freshly raked path looked as new as when it was first created. Just over an hour and ready for food we made our way home.
