Report written by Liz (She/her)
Setting off from Tap Tavern to run along the Richmond Riverside on a sunny bank holiday, there were temptations galore as we ran through crowds of people outside pubs and cafés. We knew we had good to do though and felt like superheroes as we jogged on by and headed down to Petersham & Ham Sea Scouts. Even at the final turning, we had to run through an occasional pop-up bar that uses the Scout driveway!
But we weren't needed for lifting pints, we were lifting logs. Our wood-clearing mission meant moving cut wood from one side of the drive where it floods around four times a month and it continually gets wet, to the other side where it could dry out and be used. This would then allow the light to reach the soil in the area and encourage plant life back.
The pile started with some big branches and went all the way to little twigs at the bottom, like a giant game of pick-up-sticks. It looked like an impossible task but along with task owner, Russell, we managed to rediscover the soil at the bottom!
A gentle jog back to Richmond after a great active task and a full-body workout finished off the evening nicely.
We will be
Richmond
Helping to keep the Richmond Riverside blooming and beautiful.
