Hot off the press from the Soup Kitchen!
It was already 5 pm when Emma from Ealing Soup Kitchen hit GoodGym Ealing's hot line and told Kash that the Monday shift needed more volunteers than originally planned. The previous weeks at ESK were GoodGym's hot streak with lots of our volunteers showing up, so Kash was confident that GG Ealing's hot shots would respond to the call to arms. Madhan was the one who reacted immediately as he is absolutely hot on last-minute sign-ups to do more good!
When Kash arrived, she dropped a donation of hot items: towels and bedding. They went like hot cakes the moment they were put on display for the clients to take. Kash replaced the regular volunteer Liz at the womenswear section of the clothes giveaway, so Liz could go back to the kitchen and cook today's takeaway meal: the piping hot mac & cheese! Madhan was so hot to trot that he had arrived 30 minutes before the second shift and met Emmanuella at the first shift. He attended to the menswear table and was already "selling" the hot stuff ESK had to offer today to the clients.
The Soup Kitchen wasn't as busy as a cat on a hot tin roof today, but Emma was delighted to have us as, at some point, we were the only ones at the clothes giveaway, apart from Tim, who, as usual, was the bouncer at the back door. Towards the end of the shift, one of the clients was so kind that she dropped us a large bag of donations - that made Matt go a little bit hot under the collar later when he was trying to squeeze everything into the Cupboard of Doom. We keep our fingers crossed that the client's goodies will become hot this season when pulled from the cupboard next Monday!
Ealing Soup Kitchen is a registered charity set up to help the vulnerable and homeless in the area. Nine local churches support our faith-based Soup Kitchen, which has been running since 1973.
