Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
20 runners ran to shift 6 tonnes of wood chips for Rose Estate Community Garden.
Sunshine lashed down across London fields. Life was good and a merry gaggle of runners assembled outside Superfit.
Sarah and Kevin volunteered to run to do a mission for Martyn who's garden was massively overgrown with knotweed. They smashed it. Reducing a forest to a lawn in a matter of minutes.
"We were on it."
The rest of us, led by Roz , scampered East to Kingsland road and up to the Rose estate where Alex met us and shoed us a whopping pile of wood chip. This needed shifting to various beds around he estate. We were on it. Wheel barrows trundled, carts rolled, spades flew and the chips were shifted just in time for our 8pm deadline.
We done it.
The way back was marred only slightly by for safety of missing runners who'd slipped off the back while we were admiring the trees we'd planted along Queensbridge road (which were looking lovely). We stopped off in London fields to run up and down extremely quickly. This got everyone into their lactic energy systems. Lovely.
Sarah sorted us out with expert yogi stretches - then we said a massive good luck to Rosie who's running the London Marathon, and then Patrick and Will appeared, stars of recent GG expedition to Bordeaux and persuaded people to go to the pub. Kevin showed us some photos of the baby he had 4 weeks ago. Amazing.
From Kevin on the mission
“… mission to visit Martin on Shacklewell Rd who’s garden had been chocked with nearly head height weeds! He’ll need a couple of return visits to quell the dreaded Japanese knotweed that’s virulently taking over his little patch of outside space but Sarah and Kevin made quite a difference during their 40 minute’s of chopping and hacking it all down to ground level ready for digging and removing the roots. There’s also a lot of green waste to be removed next time so a couple more pairs of hands will be put to good use. Martin was very grateful for their visit and is looking forward to seeing some more happy GoodGymers soon.
The other pic is Jamie with his ridiculously small burger which he ordered in the pub after our run. I honestly thought I was tripping when I was it. So, so small."
Race theTrain: If you are in the mood, you should definitely join the important running excursion to Wales, come and race the train with us.
More good stuff all the time.
