35 of Lambeth's finest did some serious weeding and seedling planting at Loughborough Farm
It was a light evening, hurrah! You could tell Lambeth was excited about this as runners were out in force, including awhole host of very lovely first timers. Welcome!
After a swift warm up in Papa's, Tom Benson led a group of 20 off on a 4.5km circular route via Brockwell Park to the wonderful Loughborough Farm.
Don't miss that 0.5k when writing it in the run report Welly! Said James
OK James I won't. 4.5km is a fine run and we wouldn't want to short change you all....
The rest of us headed straight to Loughborough Farm a more direct 1km there and back. On arrival, we had a lovely introduction to what it's all about from Anthea. This shared growing space allows anyone to come along and get green fingered, learning about gardening and taking home some produce at the same time.
Our task for the evening was to weed around all of the grow bags, to keep the farm looking nice and tidy, as well as planting some seedlings in the plant house. Quick to work, weeds were being pulled up left, right and centre. Those doing the seedling planting learned a thing or two as well:
Tonight I learned how many knuckles deep a nasturtium seed should be planted! Said Freyja via the medium of twitter
Once the long run gang arrived, the short run crew headed home and did a lovely exercise looking at their arm drives. By the end of it, they looked ready to take on the Olympics!
Some nice stretches finished off the evening. Top work everyone. Same time next week.
The Loughborough Farm is a community food growing project in Loughborough Junction. The Farm is well attended and goes from strength to strength since its launch in August 2013, which GoodGym Lambeth contributed to. They are now in the process of building a network of growing spaces around Loughborough Junction on pieces of land that are currently derelict or underused. Food grown is for local consumption and volunteers get training that can suppport them in finding employment.
