Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Portsmouth runner
The last day of the first week of the HIVE Uniform Swap and a big success! I shared the session again with Katy, Sandie, Nadine and George and it was lovely to chat and laugh in between sorting and finding uniform as required. Today we got some stats from Katy for this first week which included just how big an impact GoodGym volunteers make - this week alone the volunteer hours are worth £187.50 of potentially paying someone to do what GG has done. This means that the money can be used elsewhere! In terms of the uniform swap, 43 families have visited, getting uniform for 75 children. With an average clothing value of £25 for each child, that's an overall saving of £1,875! Not to mention the positive knock-on effect of re-cycling. The families have taken polo shirts, shirts, skirts, trousers, shorts, dresses, PE gear, shoes, bags, blazers, in all sorts of colours dependent on the school. But, they've also been donating uniform that's been grown out of and even brand new clothes. Moving into next week we've got lots of bags in quarantine waiting to be sorted into type, gender and size. Ready for a new wave of families coming to kit out their children for the new term. As a side note, I'm loving the inspirational words that HIVE have included in their area. Next weeks' sessions are on the website, so please sign up if you are able.
