Eighteen excellent GoodGymmers ran 4km to help maintain beautiful Highgate Wood 🌲
Meeting at the Phoenix, we welcomed Tim for his first GoodGym run and some GG tourists: Rita, Nurjehan, and Beth. Welcome!
Our marathon hero Jody is currently nursing a foot injury so she led a walking group with Fay on the way over and with Fiona on the way back.
After a quick warm up in Cherry Tree Woods the rest of us set off with Fiona and Laura back marking. It's just under 2k so we took it at an easy pace.
On arrival we did a quick litter pick while we waited for Cindy, the park ranger. When she arrived she explained that we needed to break down some dens that kids have been building using branches and sticks. You can see them in the pictures. Cindy explained that they destroy habitats for insects and other wildlife in the woods so they need them taken down and the branches redistributed.
So we got to work. There were two small dens, which we broke down in no time, before we moved to a much bigger one and finally a 'wall' which must have taken hours to build! Naturally it only took us a few minutes to disassemble and within half an hour we had finished.
We teamed up for a team photo 📸 then it was onto the open space for a fitness session. We used some benches to mark out space for a few shuttle runs with squats, mountain climbers and planks. Kudos to Pesh and Graham for a three minute plank 👀
From there it was a nice relaxed run back to the Phoenix for stretches.
Great work everyone - looking forward to next week already.

Damian, thank you for welcoming Rita and I from Haringey. Thank you for taking care of our injured Good Gymer. We loved the atmosphere and the beauty of the woods.
