Report written by Tav (he/him)
Tonight was a first for GoodGym Colchester as all (3) if us cycled to the task and back! Nearly 12km! Admittedly numbers for GoodGym have been up and down and since the Foodbank has moved to Stanway which is the ‘wrong’ side of town for many of our members and rightly they are not willing to jump in their cars...
Perhaps tonight may be an idea or test cycle for the future, especially when it gets lighter again, because I am sure everyone still appreciates the importance of the Foodbank task.
So Ella, Louise and I tested our local knowledge using roads and paths not used since my school days negotiating the mean streets of Prettygate and Stanway! Joking aside there are quieter roads that avoid the busy main roads that are not pleasant on a cold, wet, dark evening...we had hi-vis and lights on too of course.
The three of us focused on a few key areas to clean at the Foodbank - where customers are met and collect food and a thorough mop down of the whole warehouse. Louise handled Henry the Hoover like an expert whilst Ella and I swept and mopped... then back on the bikes into the Colchester night.
Not forgetting to leave a message on the staffroom pen-board.
