Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Andy
On a glorious summer's day, Andy, Michelle and Remy found themselves tasked with a mission in Isleworth. There are two big tourist attractions in Isleworth - one being the gold postbox celebrating Mo Farah's 10km win in the 2012 Olympics, and the other being the row of fruit trees planted in Thornbury Park by GoodGym Hounslow on a freezing morning in January.
We visited both sights, impressed by how much the trees had grown in a few months - no doubt due to the thorough planting efforts of team GG! Hopefully next time we visit they'll be laden with fruit to reward us for our efforts...
We made the short journey over from our trees to our mission, and met Mr W. He explained how he is hard of hearing, but has the doorbell linked to a vibrating device strapped to his wrist, which lets him know when he has visitors - a very neat system! Our task for the day was to move the boxes and bags cluttering up the bedroom into storage upstairs, labelling them as we went.
We quickly got stuck into the job, unearthing a variety of treasures (including lots of random bits of computer, mountains of DVDs, and even an unopened UK road atlas from 2004!), which we carried up the stairs, labelled with a short description, and piled into an elegant stack.
After a clocking up an impressive number of trips up and down the stairs (does anyone's watch track that?), and running low on masking tape for our labels, we had cleared an impressive amount of floorspace in Mr W's bedroom allowing him a lot more freedom to move around.
Leaving Mr W to enjoy his new space, we headed back to the park for a celebratory ice-cream (and to say goodbye to our trees), before our 4.5km run back to Chiswick together.
