Report written by Liv Parker-Scott
A small group from Ealing GoodGym spent a lovely sunny Saturday morning helping Friends of Horsenden Hill set up their annual Horsenden Farm Apple Day!
Alex arrived first to the farm bright and early and was eased into the mornings activities by being invited to sit in the sun on the deck of the boat whilst waiting for preparations to get underway, she said there are definitely worse ways to start the day! She was then shown an area and paths around the raised vegetable beds that needed tidying so got stuck into that and said by the end she had a great upper body work out! As it was a lovely day after we were done helping she stayed on to buy some local honey, a vegan Persian lunch, and watched the Morris dancers! This task was also Alex's 50th good deed with GoodGym, so a massive congratulations to her and a huge thank you for all the good she's done!
Happy 50th good deed Alex!
Tash was next on site and helped with lots of tasks to help get them set up for the day. Such a hero as she stayed as long as she could before heading off to her second task of the weekend straight afterwards.
Tash, doubling up on Saturday Missions!
Micheal Kidd was next on site and had the best tasks of the day all involving alcohol! Decanting cider barrels, labeling up local beer and lots of heavy lifting (again mostly of booze!). A great asset to the team on the day and lovely to see him out with the GoodGym Ealing crew again!
Old Kidd on the block!
Swapping out from the early morning crew, myself, Micheal C and Phill turned up as others left to help finish off any last minute setting up and we shifted hay bales, cider and apples to where they were needed as well as some on intricate tasks such as making and hanging bunting and packing up cards. The bunting was very special as it had been created by pupils from Horsenden Primary School telling their personal stories of planting more than 300 trees on Horsenden Hill last winter, it was lovely to be involved in helping to get it displayed on this beautiful sunny day!
What a lovely community event to help out at!
