Report written by Adele Prince
An awesome eight ran around 4km and played giant Tetris at Anerley Town Hall.
After a rainy old day, we all looked up cautiously at the sky when we met in the garden of the pub, hoping the rain would hold off (it did). We welcomed Linda, who joined us for the first time, having been along to a starter session a while back at our neighbouring GoodGym Lewisham - welcome to Bromley Linda!
Next week is the Dino Dash Relay! My, hasn't that come round quickly?! I'm pretty sure there are still places and we might be able to match you to a team if you need one, so check the details here if you want to join in, or just come along for the cheers (and the beers after) if you prefer!
I also mentioned a couple of upcoming community missions, litter-picking for the Crystal Palace Festival, details here and here (I think there is some flexibility around the Monday one, so let me know if you're really keen!).
The park was calling us for our warm-up, so off we went for a few little games. A big thank you to Louise, who led the way on tonight's run and to Hannah for back-marking. Our run was short, with the Town Hall appearing very quickly. We were met by Robert, who handed out gloves and took us to the container around the back of the building. This container had been filled with furniture from the old library, which is currently being decorated, but it was pretty haphazard and inaccessible. Our job was to pull things out, rearrange and reorder, creating an easy-to-reach layout. Simple!
We could see straight away that Tim had a plan and he was going to use it. Very quickly there was a line of chairs being wheeled and lifted out, with the two old front doors (which are incredibly heavy) being hoisted over some obstructions (the doors needed to be kept within reach). With all the chairs out, it was easier to manoeuvre the filing cabinets, creating a path down the middle. We then discovered an old urinal, which was given a wide berth, before starting to place smaller items inside the cabinets ('This is like Tetris!' shouted Reece).
It was interesting watching to see who was most particular about fitting things in perfectly, who would spot the perfect slot and who would rather pile things precariously on top (and there is a place for every one of those traits at GoodGym Bromley!). As I kept an eye on the time, I realised that we were in the middle of one of those perfect tasks, where you place the final item, just as time runs out. Magic. Thankfully, Robert seemed as excited and happy as we were with our achievement and will now be able to get to items much more easily.
After such a period of concentration, it was time to run off any tension, time for the GoodGym Bromley Monthlyish Summer Time Trial. We did some drills first of all, to embed a good running form and I could see, as everyone set off, that this had worked - good, strong arms and nice, lifted knees. I kept an eye on the stopwatch and our first runners were very quickly coming round. Great work from everyone! Same time next month, to see how you are progressing, or to try and maintain that pace?
Next week we will visit Cator Park for the first time this year, a 5km round-trip and a lovely gardening task. See you there!
