SESSION ORGANISER
Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Vanessa Crannis
Six keen Goodgymers used their leg power to journey to the Foodbank for our third evening of making parcels for delivery to school voucher families. With extra resource, we were also able to clean the premises. After an update on the procedure for picking, weighing, packing and labelling food, Ian, Naomi, Emma and Ben organised an assembly line for that task. James very ably took on hovering, mopping and surface cleaning and Vanessa swept the warehouse floor. There was lively talk of interests begun and those we'd missed, during lockdown. Also, joy that we have resumed some much-loved physical activities with more muscle ease than we'd expected. Phew! Good luck to Emma and Naomi with their gravity defying aerial skills. James has been running, cycling and walking all over the place and Ian is a quarter way to walking to John O'Groats on his virtual challenge. We wish Ben well with his knee surgery and hope he's back to football before too long. On this sporty theme, Naomi expounded the benefits of 'Jeffing' and I, for one, was surprised to learn how much it could improve fitness. Most importantly, we got 16 standard food parcels packed and labelled in very good time. There was some kerfuffle over bags and the team were hugely supportive in swapping some packages to sturdier holdalls and making sure all items were fit for delivery. Taking the decision to move the Foodbank van was not without some Goodgym humour. Thank you all for supporting me to drive it the not-very-many metres to the warehouse; you should see me on the race track! And thanks to Emma for backing it back in its spot and rightly making it her claim to fame! I can't divulge the joke about the (temporarily) lost key; it's all locked up. Boom, boom! These parcels will be added to 30 family crates and distributed to families tomorrow. Goodgym are pleased to support Colchester foodbank in reaching out to so many isolated and worried people, especially during such uncertain times. Lastly, my thanks for your excellent company. See you soon.
