We had such a great task today!

Meeting at Roll For The Soul and with a warm up version of ad-libbing whilst outlining the task and highlighting the health and safety issues facing up, we headed off on our way over to the Golden Hill Community Allotments in Horfield.

The allotment has a Harvest Fair each year to promote the garden and raise money to keep it going and it was our job to help with setting up the event. It was evident when we arrived that some of the expected help from other sources had not shown up yet and so Lucy, our wonderful host, was somewhat relieved to see us.

Time was of the essence, so we were quickly split into two groups:

TEAM PIZZA consisted of Deb, Paul, Liam and David who got their mitts washed before organising themselves around a large tressel table and grabbed bags of dough (the baking kind, not the monetary version!). Carefully choosing the right amount of the spludgy stuff they then kneaded this to make it all nice and smooth and consistent and then rolled it out into pizza bases so that these could later be baked in the Fiery Frog oven on site. The said oven was also do a fine job of roasting a few backsides to keep our runners warm as they worked.

TEAM GAZEBO was Will, Richard, Charlie, Caroline, Emma and myself, and under the guidance of Pete got the gazebo put together by building the frame, placing the roof cover over the top and attaching this via elasticated ropes and toggles - the toggles seemed very keen to detach themselves from the rope, but we got there eventually.

Having constructed the gazebo, we then moved this into place above Team Pizza so that they could work unaffected by the threat of rain and also allow those preparing food later in the day to have some shelter from the elements.

Team Gazebo, then moved on to putting out some bunting to make the fair look more fair-y and colourful (there was definitely some Good Will Bunting going on!) and even managed to brush the pond debris from the path, put up some speakers and help moving some calor gas canisters before it was time to go.

Trying to get Team Pizza to stop what they were doing and step away from the table felt a little bit like John and Greg trying to get their contestants to get their food out on time on Masterchef, but finish they did eventually, leaving a large number of beautiful looking and perfectly formed pizza bases ready to be baked.

And then we were on our way back to Roll For The Soul for some cool down stretches and lovely lunch.

We really made a huge difference today, such a fabulous task, enabling the fair to go ahead on time and great fun too. Very different to some of the tasks that we have been doing recently also, so it was really good to have a bit of variety.

Great job gang, thanks to everyone for coming along and getting stuck in and to Richard for backmarking today. And well done to Emma for coming up with today's amazing pun!

See you next time!
