SESSION ORGANISER
Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Anastasia Hancock (she/her)
Last night saw us take a mile long run down to Kew Bridge to tackle the plastic problem and do a spot of weeding so the area is spick and span ahead of this weekend's Thames Tidefest. This community event is for everybody to enjoy and to promote the health of our lovely stretch of river!
While at first appearances the plastic didn't seem to be too bad, we quickly found a whole lot of plastic waste which had been washed up or dumped on the slip way. The plastic pickers leaped into action while the weeders worked solidly on the overgrown pathways that the public use every day. Watched by some very large geese, swans and lots of passersby, we soon cleared the area, leaving it looking much more inviting. We also learned some interesting facts like - did you know there are sharks in the outer Thames Estuary? Just when you thought it was safe to get back in the water!
We couldn't leave such a beautiful back drop without doing a bit of a work out, so we found the perfect spot among the picnickers to bash out a three minute mountain leg blast and then do a quick upper body finisher.
Next week's task is just in the process of being confirmed, but there will definitely be a session happening. There's also lots to look forward to coming up, including this mission on Sunday helping out at Heron Way allotments and next weekend there is another great junior parkrun takeover. Enjoy the rest of your week, GoodGym!
