The rain was falling heavily as volunteers arrived at Leabridges Junior Parkrun #27 squelching their way to Our muster point. Trying to keep everything dry was the order of the day, and an umbrella was a must if you had one. I was Timekeeper which was only made difficult by trying to balance an umbrella and a stopwatch but at least I kept dry. We did imagine that no one would turn up and us Volunteers would walk around the course on our own, but no, 21 hardy juniors and their bedraggled responsible adult arrived at 08.45 and heartily participated in the warm up, walked over to the start 3-2-1 whistle started the proceedings. There were 3 first timers to Leabridges today and one of them Ruben came in first in a magnificent 07.55 for the 2K course, considering the boggy conditions even more of an achievement. This is my 9th time volunteering here and I must say that I have never seen ALL the juniors running, none walking, none having a little tiny moan, guess they all wanted to hurry up and get home to a warm bath 😂 check out the photos on Leabridges Facebook page if you don’t believe me, I’ve never seen so many smiles. So good to see their enthusiasm, especially on such a miserable early morning, and well done all those Volunteers who turned out today, many are regulars, thank you thank you, and if you are reading this and can give up a little time first thing on a Sunday morning 08.30 till 09.30 do check out the website of your nearest Junior Parkrun email them and put your name down, you won’t regret it. Happy running and volunteering everyone 🏃♀️🏃🧡❤️
