With a ‘gouling’ warm up to give the neighbours a fright, Mark had us doing monster leg lifts, growling burpees, screaming squats and howling back to the witch’s hat. He had a few tricks up his sleeve tonight but a bag of treats too!

Once we were warmed up we were off on our run towards New Malden to meet our friends at the Kingston Environment Centre to help in creating an edible bus stop. There were plenty of planks to be lifted into place and no one was found to be a sleeper on the job.

Next we were onto the soil while Jess and Laura transported a teepee of sticks and twigs only to find the twine unravelling by the time in reached its new home beside the bus stop. Caroline came in for support and would knot give up until it was properly tied together again. It was good of her to stick with it. Mark was glad to see us branching out and learning new skills of stick balancing.

Meanwhile a lovely nasturtium plant was brought out to be planted too. We were told that it is one of the most useful plants. It attracts pollinating insects and acts as a sacrificial plant for brassicas by attracting caterpillars to its leaves. Its flowers, leaves, seed pods and seeds are prolific & edible and it readily self-seeds.

We also got to plant some strawberry plants, chard, tarragon, parsley and rosemary just in thyme to take a photo of the transformation. Our friends added the finishing touches of a ‘sign’ of things to come welcoming passers-by to help themselves.

Welcome to JP visiting us from Richmond tonight - great to have you join us!
