Seven Superstars met for a lovely evening's run, a good deed for the wonderful Ignition Brewery and we even squeezed in some circuits!
BREW GOOD, GET FIT
First up, we met at The Bridge House, named our favourite cheese (I think we covered every single type?!) and then had a warm up in the park, thoroughly wearing ourselves out before our run...
It was a 2km jog to Ignition Brewery - they're a non-profit brewery providing training and employment for people with learning disabilities - and the car park out the back is where they host a monthly market (selling goods from some other fab social enterprises too!). It was a bit of a mess, with pallets, wardrobe panels and overgrown plants that needed to be binned.
We met Richard (who incidentally went on one of the first ever GoodGym runs in Tower Hamlets! š¤Æ) who showed us our tasks:
šŖ Stephen and Alex got to work destroying some pallets pronto, employing some sawing and brute force.
šØ Carla and David were dealing mostly with some wardrobe sides and doors - thankfully they broke into bits very easily (or maybe Carla and David were just in the right mood š”)
š± And Alison and Clare were handling the greenery, snipping off branches from some overgrown plants.
š All the waste got binned (one of the bins was only opened occasionally due to the indescribable smell...) and Richard even gave us some beer for our troubles! š»
SMASHED IT! (literally.)
We went back via Alexandra Rec, partly to view some of our tree planting exploits, but mostly for a ferocious circuits session.
We had a little carousel of burpees, bicycle crunches, squat jumps and russian twists which the team navigated with aplomb š and then we headed back.
Nice one gang!

Loving the puns! I really enjoyed this task. I was definitely in the right mood to smash things and burn some energy for a great cause š

We had a lovely bunch this evening for a spot of flyering for the fab Ignition Brewery. They provide employment and training in brewing, selling and delivering beer for people with learning disabilities. And tonight we were spreading the word about an event they have on Saturday raising money for the Ukraine crisis.
After a quick warm up in the park, we ran 2k to the brewery and picked up the flyers from a box out the back. We had a few roads to target around Sydenham station and tonight's team absolutely smashed it, running between houses and easily dropping off a few hundred flyers.
When we returned we took our prize - 10 bottles of beer sitting in a box. We took the quick route back as we were so heavily laden and everyone went home with 2+ beers each! š»
Nice one guys, and special shout out to Maxim who joined for his first GG run š„

Well what a lovely evening! A fabulous 5 set out for an evening's weeding at TNG Youth Centre in Sydenham with a great bit of hill running and a (hopefully) helpful anacronym!
First up we met at The Bridge House and shared what kind of pet we'd most like to be with answers ranging from the humble cat to an owl or a squirrel! (We're a creative bunch at GG Bromley.)
We had a quick warm up before I shared my anacronym for smoother hill running, SSSKAB:
Slightly Smaller Steps - no point wasting energy on longer strides
Knees - get those knees up to prepare for the gradient
Arms - a great time to make extra use of them to power you up a slope!
Balloon - very important to remember while running generally, but definitely when running up a hill - keep your head up and don't bend forwards!
Our route to the youth centre took us up a long hill so a good opportunity to put these things into practice!
When we arrived at TNG, Trevor armed us with a bag of tools, a hoe and a funky wire brush! We got cracking on an area which Health & Safety had said needed to be sorted out, so it was great we could visit so soon. There were lots of deeply embedded weeds but our team did a fab job of rooting them out and bagging them up.
Alex took pleasure in chopping off some brambles whilst Holly spent most of the time bagging up. David was really digging deep on the weed roots and Cat found a satisfying job in scraping moss off the floor.
We were done in no time filling 5 bags and leaving them out for the council to collect.
Nice one gang!
Next week we're jogging up to The Triangle for some clothes sorting at the St Christopher's charity shop. Here's the deets.
