Frequent Flyers !!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

The days are getting longer and the Lambeth team were down at Papa's enjoying the last rays of the sun as it dipped below the houses on Pulross Rd because it was Tuesday and that can only mean one thing - Group Run time.

This evening was a classic help out our friends session so we were heading out to post flyers for our friends at Get Rid of and Donate as well as some GoodGym ones to raise awareness of two awesome organisations (if we do say so ourselves).

Four members so Manos, Tilly, Katie and AA Yianny set off on a lovely loop through Brixton and down to Brockwell Park before heading back and starting the leafletting around the Rattray and Mayall Road block.

We had a decent chunk of flyers so divided them up but by 5 to 8 we were standing triumphantly by the side of St Matthew's Church with empty hands and a feeling of achievement!

So that's it, another great task and another fun evening. Big congratulations to Tilly for setting a new PB on her half marathon the weekend past, to Katie for hitting a double session trail run + GG group run and Manos who was back for his second ever session (one of the family now!)

Chip Shape & Bristol Fashion !!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

Let's talk about last night's session back with Simon at the Thorlands project. The group was neatly divided by those meeting at Papa's fir the Group Run, those running directly to the task and thise cycling so we had all bases covered fotness wise!

AA Yianny was delighted to hear stories from GGers or holidays just taken to exotic climbs (and not AT ALL jealous...) leading to fun conversations about covonut cocktails and low cost flights on the run down to the land of Thor.

On arrival the three groups we reunited and ready to kick things off in the frosty evening air. Spirits were nevertheless high probably due to setting off while it was still light out and our tasks were clear, dig over the next section of garden 1 and collect and barrow in the woodchip to lay down preparing the next phase of this project.

The great spirit led to GGers discussing the best way to attract more members to the Lambeth community with some 'innovative' suggestions on fancy dress shall we say being floated.... Perhaps one to file under let's revisit after the next GG social?

By the end of the session all the planned work was complete, Simon was happy (and won his battle against technology!) and everyone could head home knowing another great task was in the books.

Huge thanks to all as ever and see you next time :0)

A Rake Short of a Full House !!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

Our intrepid GoodGymers met at Papa's and were presented with a challenge to start our evening - could anyone help our friends who use Papa's Hall to open the door using the dodgy keys we had? I'll spare you the suspense - no we couldn't! The combined skill and brainpower of a medical professional, a tech titan and an Area Activator failed miserably, but in our defense on that set of keys it has been thus for years......

Never mind we had work to do so Katie, Dan and Yianny set off for a 3km run out to the wonderful Holy Trinity Church and we were able despite the dark to take a tour through Brockwell Park - a lovely twilight run - on our way as we look forward to the lengthening Spring evenings.

On arrival we were met by Paul and Ben and shortly afterwards Michael arrived having completed his longer run to the task as part of his marathon training.

We had two main tasks set out by Nicole: - Trim and collect the bushes and put into compost bags - Shovel woodchip into barrows and wheel up to be spread on the back garden area.

As ever a very satisfying task made all the better by the lovely surroundings (check out some cool photos from Katie and Ben) and great company (Robocop chat and 1980s VHS reminiscences!) and by the end of the hour we had made a significant dent in the work. As always there is plenty of maintenance so we will be back next month but for this session we were done and ready to head back.

A quick sweetie distribution for energy and we set off back to base or home and big thank you to all the team for another excellent task.

See you next time! :0)

A Plastic Classic !!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

Another chilly evening down in Brixton but that wouldn't keep our intrepid GGers away from their group session!

Dan showed his commitment and shook off his back injury to come down and was joined by Katie and Tilly for our regular recycling collection session supporting Greenpeace's Everyday Plastic initiative.

Once the group had finished a detailed discussion of age related back ailments and stretches we set off on a pleasant 3km loop to get warmed up and then as we arrived back dived straight into our task.

This session is a simple one - grab as much recyclable material as we can find littering the streets of Lambeth and get it into recycling bins - this then avoids it being swept into rubbish collection and going to landfill!

By the end of the session we had stuffed two black bags with recyclable material and put them into recycling bins - a job well done. Big thanks to all and Dan I owe you a pack of sweet treats!!
