When Bush Comes to Glove

Richmond Report written by Lucy Hill

Seven super heroes in red shirts (although covered up tonight in warmer layers) came to help out at St Christopher’s Children’s Home in Twickenham.

A regular task, we were back and having made easy work of the front gardens, tonight we went back to back. We searched the shed for tools, and got cracking.

Africa, Chris, JP and Lucy took on the bush-tucker challenge. Although there was less tucking and more chopping, as the shears gave two of the unruly bushes a good trim. Down in the vegetable patch Adam, Cathy and Susan started on clearing the weeds which had run wild in the allotment. Little mountains of hedge trimmings, leaves and green leafy weeds piled up on the compost heap, and before long we have two neat and tidy bushes and a tidy patch. It’s always amazing to see the transformation that we can do in such a short time. Well done tonight gang, bush chopper challenge complete.

Baby it’s Cod Outside

Ealing Report written by Lucy Hill

On my bike I headed out, To Mr G of Ealing, It was blooming cold even in my gloves, My fingers had lost all feeling.

Mr G was prepared as always, With his list of goods for the week, A meal a day and some leafy greens, Yoghurts and pie I shall seek.

Off to Sainsburys, wrapped up warm, Find all the bits he asked for, Paid up, bag loaded and outside again, Cycled back to Mr G’s front door.

Shopping delivered and change returned, I went back outside into the chill, Another good deed completed today, By me, Lucy Victoria Hill.

Freezy does it

Hounslow Report written by Anastasia Hancock (she/her)

The roads were glistening white, our fingers were growing blue but our tshirts were red and that means one thing - it's GoodGym Hounslow night!

There was no doubt that the temperature has plummeted which made the prospect of an outside task not particularly inviting. But we had a job to do, and nothing was going to stop us!

We ran down to Strand on the Green school to finish off a job that we have been working on for several sessions. After sanding down the benches in the middle of the school field it was now time to stain them with wood protector.

We located the tins of preserver, grabbed our brushes and got to work.

Gus showcased his speed staining moves, Emily was flipping benches like a pro, Chris was popping the tops of the tins and the whole scene was a blur of activity. After 40 minutes of hard work, the complete set of seven benches was done and ready for winter. It just goes to show that with the right motivation we are highly efficient!

Sub zero temperatures meant that, for once, fitness was not on the cards. Plus we had already had a good workout with all that quick painting and trying to keep warm! So we raced back to base, did some stretches (important when it's cold to prevent injuries) and headed to the toasty pub.

Net week we're back at Chiswick House and there is also a great upcoming mission to rewild the river] (https://www.goodgym.org/v3/sessions/rewild-the-river). Happy GoodGyming everyone!
