I believe I can flyyyyyyer

Greenwich Report written by Sarah Place

24 awesome runners ran 5km to help spread the word for the Greenwich and Bexley Hospice!

It was two for the price of one last night. Two events to flyer for, both in the aid of our lovely local hospice. If anyone is interested in the two events you can find out more about them here.

No new people last night but we still started the run with name, headcount and favourite thing, last night was takeaways since it was SAMOSA DAY. Great to hear that Gareth's mum's roast dinner cafe has taken off!

We split into two groups. Ben took a slightly longer distance group to flyer the streets near Vanbrugh Hill while my group stayed local and cleared the leaflets in West Greenwich! My group was promised no hills but since we finished our flyering early and we were running past Point Hill, I thought it would be rude not to as I heard the view from up there was particularly spectacular. So up we went and a few minutes later we were rewarded with the best view in London!

After a few photos we headed back to meet the others for a quick fitness session. A 4 minute tabata (20 seconds on, 10 seconds off) alternating between squat jumps to get those legs nice and strong and mountain climbers to get that core working! It was over in a flash and it was time for a stretch and more importantly our well overdue social!!!

We headed to our lovely local just 5 minutes walk away for a wonderful evening of food and bevs. So nice to catch up with you all, we will try and do this on a more regular basis!

Great work with the task! All the leaflets were cleared and no one got lost! Win win!! See you all next week! Oh and also good luck to those doing the Great North Run at the weekend!

I don't know about you but I'm feeling twenty-four

Southwark Report written by Lucy J

  • Hello and Welcome to Danielle and Beth who joined us for the first time last night. We hope to see your faces again!

Knock on the door we're twenty-four

Last night at whopping TWENTY FOUR GoodGymers gathered at Old Spike Roastery to tackle two tasks at once. One group was off on an 8km round trip to see Barnaby at Bee Urban and the other went on a 6km round trip over to Bell House in Dulwich. It was a beautiful evening and with the slightly cooler temperatures, we were keen to head out. The long runners set off early with Helena and Girija and the shorter runners warmed up with me and then set off for Bell House.

The long runners encountered a bit of an issue - Barnaby at Bee Urban had confused us with Lambeth who run on a Tuesday and had been expecting us the night before. Oh no! Luckily we got in touch with him and found plenty of leaves and rubbish that needed shifting. We still managed to get our good done! Big props to the long runners for using their initiative. You can find out more about the Barnaby's projects here.

The 6km runners went to beautiful Bell House where we got to work loosening the soil in a bed we cleared last time we were there and then planting. With the help of Sarah and George we got plenty of bulbs in and can't wait to see them make the garden even more beautiful. For more info on the gorgeous Bell House and everything they do - click here. It was hard to tear ourselves away but we managed to tidy up and get ready for our group photo. We went for 'moody indie album cover' before our usual happy selfie variation. We'd make a mean gardening-based indie band. Any thoughts on names?

Great work team. Have a great night next week, see you on 22nd August!

Keep running happy, Lucy

Ps. sorry about the Taylor Swift pun

Get out (leaf), right now, it's the end of all those weeds

Greenwich Report written by Sarah Place

23 awesome runners ran 3km to clear leaves and weeds at St Marks church!

And so the heatwave continues, but it seems to be a good thing as it brought out 4 lovely new runners last night so please welcome to the gang Beth, James, Marianne and Rachael! Hope you enjoyed your first run with us!

We have a Facebook group for GoodGym Greenwich where people often post about races or other bits going on so feel free to join!

Yay for Bliss!

Big congratulations were in order yesterday as it was Bliss's 50th Good Deed! Well done Bliss, hope you celebrated with a tequila last night!

We headed off for a quick warm up and then ran through the park (which was looking rather sad and yellow) to St Marks Church! We were met by the lovely Tony who had got everything organised for us and even had some cold lemonade at the ready! What a fab host!

There were 3 tasks which needed some attention. The first one was sweeping and bagging up leaves at the front of the building. The second was weeding and clearing the courtyard and the third was cutting brambles and vines out the back!

We split off into groups and got going immediately! Everyone grabbed some tools and went for it. There were two stand out tools of the evening, the comedy broom which was about 10cm wide and the cool leaf grabber which was super effective! After 20 minutes, the front of the building had totally been transformed and lots of bags of leaves had accumulated. Nice work!

The other two groups were getting on just as well, group 3 even had some snacks to keep them going... blackberries from the brambles! They were REALLY sour though, probably because they were covered in fox wee hahaha.

After half an hour the place was looking WONDERFUL!!! The bags were brought around the back, tools were put away and a final drink was had before we took our group photo and headed off! What a transformation!

We went back through the park, back to the uni for a quick partner core session on the grass (which more resembled hay) and then called it a night!

Great work everyone as always! We got so much done!!! See you all next week!
