Woking Report written by James McCloud
Heavy rain overnight and early morning meant conditions were likely to be wet but a little Junior Parkrun magic came along at just the right time and the skies were blue and sunny in time for our 65 young athletes to run the 2km course in Woking Park.
I met up with Rich, Phil, Ben and Rebekah for an early long run which finished in the park in time for us to run 1 lap as the course check. There were a few puddles but no serious hazards and we deemed the course safe for the children.
Adam walked to the park as he was sore from a s&c session yesterday. He kindly brought me a coffee which was much welcomed.
He also reprised what is becoming his regular role doing the First Timers Welcome. He was certainly needed as there were 6 first timers to welcome today.
Katie and Phil ran from Knaphill to marshal the course and keep the children safe while encouraging them along. Couples that parkrun together stay together.
James, Rich, Victoria and Other Rich were also marshals on course today. I was pleased with my spot as I was able to stand in the sunshine 🌞 the whole time.
The children did really well and there were 17 personal bests recorded.
Once tokens were sorted and everything packed away for next week, I headed into town with Adam and Rich for breakfast.
This Wednesday coming we will be laying woodchip in the wooded section of the park for the 5k runners. Do join us if you can as the course really needs it.

Woking junior parkrun 183…. Hot, hot, hot!
Congratulations to the children who came this morning. There were a few “first timers” and a couple of “tourists” too. Three children received a wristband for achieving an ultra, a marathon and half marathon. Well done Teddy, Reuben and Quin.
Despite the heat, 61 children took part in the 2 kms course in Woking Park. Some ran, others jogged, walked and one even danced joyfully around the cones when reaching the finishing line.
The first runner, Katie, crossed the line in 7minutes 19 seconds soon followed by Thomas achieving 7minutes 41seconds.
Well done to all who took part under this heat… and lucky to those whose parents rewarded them with a visit to the ice cream van!
Thank you to the volunteers who cheered and encouraged the young runners.
Please get in touch if you and/or your child can volunteer, all of the roles are very easy, and we will talk you through any roles that you haven’t done before. Please email: wokingjuniors@parkrun.com and we will gladly add you to our roster.
As usual, Woking GoodGym were in force to help on this very hot Sunday morning when 61 children took part in the junior parkrun 183.
James was the Run Director guiding us towards different roles:
Adam welcomed the children who attended for the first time and was also a time keeper.
Katie, Kirsty, Lauren and Phil marshalled, enthusiastically encouraging the children.
Anne gave out the barcodes and sorted them with Georgina.
James ran 10 kms before setting up the course with Rich. Adam who completed the Kempton half marathon yesterday took a well earned rest from his morning run.
Katie and Phil ran 10 kms to the park and back home. Kirsty enrolled her partner to volunteer and her son to take part in the junior parkrun. Unfortunately, she hurt her knee last Wednesday so must take a break from running. Anne ran 2 kms most of it was risk assessing the course.
Thank you James for leading such a fantastic team! Are you joining us on Wednesday for group run to Brockhill care home in Knaphill? We will meet at WWF to run along the canal. In the meantime: Happy running!

Phil Jackson earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Phil completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Phil was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.
