Tonight we teamed up with Emma from the Mitcham Hedgehog Project for a truly insightful mission: setting up tunnels to survey the local area for hedgehogs! After a quick brief, we dove headfirst into preparing the triangular tunnels. Painting each side of the A4 paper inserts with a mix of vegetable oil and charcoal ink was a real ink-genious method!
Then, we hedged our bets across six locations, taking turns to set up the dry cat food bait and securely pin down the tunnels to minimise any movement. It was a unique and un-fur-gettable session helping to protect our prickly friends and we learned a hedge-load about the local hedgehogs and the area! A huge welcome to Rita and congratulations on completing your first GoodGym task, and a big hello to Williams, who joined us from a neighbouring area. Tonight, we helped out at Merton's Community Fridge with the post-distribution clean-up, and what a refreshing session it was! It was brilliant to see so many familiar faces back in action, and a huge welcome to Suja, who joined us for a trial after only recently hearing about us. Everyone pitched in, and we absolutely smashed through the jobs, leaving the Fridge sparkling tidy, as always! 💪 Great work, team!

Tonight, the team took on a deep-cleaning mission at Merton's Community Fridge! While the physical job of removing the partition wall didn't quite make the cut due to issues with fixings, this was probably a blessing.

After being briefed by Anelisa on what to doo, we cracked through as much as possible in the time available. Fridges were shifted, heavy crates and boxes were moved, and every single nook and cranny was cleared and cleaned. With 6 Goodgymmers in such a small space it was a pretty hot work out and the challenge was getting it all back in the right place afterwards. But thanks to the commitment to getting the job done we completed the task and even had time to enjoy a drink (of water) in return for our efforts. Well done team!

True dedication at Merton's Community Fridge this afternoon! Even without anything officially scheduled in the diary, our fantastic volunteers turned up ready to work through the various clean-up jobs. Efficiently tackling tasks and they were done and dusted.

Five of the team joined a fantastic session at Mitcham Orchard today, getting stuck into a variety of tasks!

We tackled two main jobs: Matthieu and Martina (welcome and well done on your first task) skillfully worked on covering the greenhouse, ensuring it's ready for whatever the weather brings. Meanwhile, Jade and Rhian teamed up with Clare to get some serious planting done, getting pumpkin and squash plants into the ground. They also did a great job clearing fallen plums, setting them aside for pickling!

A debit visit for three of the team and a little bonus job - cherry picking. Yum! Great work by everyone involved, making a real difference in this beautiful orchard.

Plenty of good vibes at Merton's Community Fridge for the clean-up session today as we took it slow and a little chilled despite the heat! We got off to a great start, working through cleaning various boxes while the distribution team was still wrapping up. We even found time to rinse out the food containers. Then extra hands arrived to help with the various rubbish and recycling piles, not to mention the numerous crates. Everything was sparkling clean and properly tidied and even refilled, ready for the next round!
