Save the Bacon

Norwich Report written by Ian Gostling

Tonight 16 GoodGymer's ran 2km to the new Prescilla Bacon Lodge Hospice in Norwich.

This brand new facility is a dedicated hub for specialist palliative care, in a beautiful setting of landscaped gardens for use by patients and their families.

Louise led us round detailing the great work that is done by many volunteers, including our very own Katy who was also present when his majesty the King officially opened the centre earlier this year.

We were given the opportunity to take part in a bereavement activity remembering close relatives, animals or friends by using finger paints and sharing stories.

It will be great to return to help out with special events and fundraising activies in the future.

Pé-tank-que very much!

Norwich Report written by Ian Gostling

Tonight 13 GoodGymer's ran or cycled 6km to Eaton Park in the sunshine.

At the task we met Helen and Linda from the Friends of Eaton Park, who gave out tools to help tidy up the pétanque pitch.

We used trowels and delicate fingers to pull up any weeds, being careful not to tear or pierce the underlying mesh lining. After filling a wheelborrow full of weeds, we used rakes and brushes to level out the gravel.

High Five's to Tom who joined us on his first Good Deed!

After a swift 30mins the pitch was looking in a much better shape. Helen thanked us for our efforts and told us about many exciting events taking place in the park over the summer, such as bands playing, wildlife talks and late licence opening hours of the cafe! Take a look on their website & socials for more info!

Take your Pic-nic!

Norwich Report written by Ian Gostling

Tonight 18 GoodGymer's ran or cycled 6km to Mousehold Heath.

We returned to this 140 acre heathland to continue the conservation work improving the biodiversity of this historical part of Norwich.

Armed with gloves and forks we cleared two large areas of bracken, allowing the underlying heather and grass to continue to grow.

Kudos to Ed and Ana who completed their first good deeds, and a BIG shout out to Sarah for her 50th good deed tonight!

Despite the summer rain, we ended the evening with a picnic in the nearby bandstand for more 7th birthday celebrations of GoodGym Norwich!

Hedge your bets

Norwich Report written by Ian Gostling

Tonight 8 GoodGymer's ran 6km to West Earlham Community Centre, a charity organisation which supports young people from disadvantaged neighbourhoods to help gain access to higher education, employment and work-based mentoring.

We were tasked with weeding flowerbeds and trimming hedges on a bright warm evening. Armed with sheers, Stephen quickly transformed the hedge out the front, and continued along the wall of the building at the back.

While the rest of the group were busy clearing weeds out the front, with refreshments kindly provided by Shannon and the team, talk soon turned onto who might win the Euro's this year!?

One hour flew by, so we bagged everything up, leaving the venue looking clean an tidy.
