His glamorous assistant...

Friday 17th January

Written by Helen Noyes

This Friday morning Jason and I (Helen) made our way to Leeds Baby Bank to help them with their mammoth task of relocating their entire store to a new location. Moving moses baskets and nappies would have been the easy option, but we were assigned the more strenuous job of dismantling the wooden storage units. Luckily Jason came armed with his power tools and I played to my strengths of holding the nails and keeping away from the hammer. Jason had a fantastic workout and I avoided injury so job done! Three units dismantled and cups of tea all round. We're very keen to assist with the re-assembly in the new facility and to see if we can remember which bit goes where!

Every Day I'm Muscle'n

Wednesday 15th January

Written by Laura

It was great to get the gang back together tonight! 11 GoodGymers ran 2.5K to the Community Street at Quarry Place to continue with a variety of tasks.

We got a good workout in, moving several heavy planters down the street and into the van. We also continued to build the planter in the bin store, we lined and moved some other planters and then the remaining few of us finished off with some litter picking, filling 3 bags full of rubbish! Jason got to play with a drill again which we all know he enjoys and Fay was a trooper picking litter in a whole street by herself.

I had to laugh at Kat who thought the January challenge was for a whole year, so her target might be slightly unachievable in one month... you have 15 days left Kat, so you might need to run all day, every day to make that target!

What a productive evening! We then ran another 2.5K back to Heart. Thanks to Helen for leading another great run.

Shorts & Brief

Saturday 4th January

Written by Laura

This morning 6 dedicated GoodGymers met on a very icey & cold morning to do Woodhouse Moor park run. 4 of us then headed to do a local litter pick around the streets near the park. Jitheesh was very brave picking in his running shorts & top...I got cold just looking at him! We made it a brief task as it was absolutely freezing but still managed 4 bags of litter.

It was also nice to meet Helen's new greyhound Louie, he was a very good boy!

A great start to the January challenge everyone, well done :)

This is the same report as the task was split into two! https://www.goodgym.org/v3/reports/short-brief

This morning 6 dedicated GoodGymers met on a very icey & cold morning to do Woodhouse Moor park run. We set our own pace and completed the 5K course which was very icey in parts.

4 of us then headed to do a local litter pick around the streets near the park. Jitheesh was very brave picking in his running shorts & top...I got cold just looking at him! We made it a brief task as it was absolutely freezing but still managed 4 bags of litter.

Welcome to Carla for her first session & to Chi who joined us from London. Sorry that we missed you for the pick Chi, if you're ever in Leeds again then do pay us a visit!

Going Good to Gym (Soaking Wet!)

Wednesday 1st January

Written by Jason

Leeds GoodGym has a session at Woodhouse Moor on Saturday 4th January. Unable the make that, I ran the 09:00 New Year’s Day 25 furlong at York (York 5km parkrun) and volunteered to scan barcodes instead. 588 runners were faced with some big puddles on the course. One ankle deep for about 30 metres - twice. Getting wet was inevitable, so everyone trotted through without any shrieking or trying to avoid the water. The finish line soon came up after one and a half laps of York Racecourse. I gave the horse a little whip, but he didn’t respond too well due to carrying a few Christmas pounds and a cold. I grabbed a coat and began scanning just in time for the rush of finishers. GoodGym York were there, but I wasn’t quick enough to sign up to their session. A nice way to start the New Year, and hopefully a contribution to the January challenge.

2 Pints of Lager & a Packet of Crisps

Monday 23rd December 2024

Written by Laura

Another attempt by me on a solo mission to clear up the local area in Seacroft.

I picked up 27 cans, 4 glass bottles, a sock & many, many packets of crisps! There we also takeaway cartons & lottery tickets in abundance. Still, after 40 minutes I barely made a dent on the still piles of litter in this one spot. This is a work in progress but one i'm determined to sort out!

Until the next time...
