Only Fools and Horses

Wednesday 19th February

Written by Laura

Helen took us on an adventurous run on the way back from Beckhill Community Garden last night. If I tell the story, we were chased by two horses into a prickly bush. If Helen tells it, two horses came towards us out of curiosity and I was over dramatic. I like my version better :)

The Wednesday gang headed up to Stainbeck United Reformed Church to clear their paths & litter pick in preparation for their Garden Action Day for kids on half term. The minister is particularly pleased with the drains that Jason was determined to clear. It was nice to go somewhere different and the run on the way back was certainly an adventure! Lydia had just washed her trainers...always a mistake before one of Helen's runs!

Welcome to Ebun on her first task, we hope to see you again soon. Thanks to Helen for another great run.

A Never Ending Story

Saturday 15th February

Written by Laura

This weekend, two neighbours once again went back to the alley in Seacroft to tackle the piles of litter which has accumulated since our last pick. We went off in different directions, Bronwen did the road & I tackled the alley.

The alley is a real problem area with lots of litter in hard to reach brambles but I filled a bag and will go back to see what else I can do. Bronwen also filled a bag quite quickly.

Litter is a real issue in Seacroft but even if we make a small dent, it does make a difference for local residents.

Bedding Down for Valentines Day

Wednesday 12th February

Written by Laura

On a very cold, wet Wednesday evening, the GoodGym crew ran from Heart up to Woodhouse Community Centre. We were tasked with dismantling some raised beds & moving soil & leaves from one bed to another. Shannen and I even managed to do a little litter picking.
It was freezing cold but we got a lot done between us all and it was nice to do something at a different location.
Well done to Helen for leading the run after doing 10 miles today plus a yoga class...you're a legend! Katie told us about her very exciting trip to the Palace last Wednesday, where she was hobnobbing with the King! How exciting! Welcome back to Elspeth who joined us for her second session, we hope to see you again soon.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone.

I'm Rooting For You

Sunday 9th February

Written by Laura

This morning, on my 100th GoodGym good deed, we joined the Friends of Burley Park to plant trees in the park. The GoodGym team had to dig up the root of one tree which hadn't taken properly and this was the most challenging bit. it took a lot of effort to pull up the root but we got there in the end.

We then dug a square hole and placed the new tree inside with a pipe for watering carefully around the base of the roots. Once covered over, the job was done. It was a good workout and we definitely had a sense of satisfaction at the end. It will be nice to visit the park and see the fruits of our labours.

The rest of the volunteers planted around 8 new trees and some garlic bulbs.

What a great morning, well done!

Ferretting Around

Wednesday 5th February

Written by Laura

Tonight, 10 GoodGymers ran a 5K round trip to Hartley Park to litter pick. We'd started the job on Saturday when we filled 5 bags of rubbish & tonight we filled 13 bags. We really made a huge difference to the park & I think the residents will notice a big change tomorrow. It just shows what a difference GoodGym cam make in such a short period of time.

The highlight was meeting a ferret who was out on his nightly walk...yes, really!

Welcome to newcomers Umair & Brandon, we hope to see you again soon.

Thanks to Jason for driving the kit to the task & to Helen for another great run. I know we moan about the hills but we do appreciate them really (honest)!

Jog my memory!

Saturday 1st February

Written by Laura

What a lovely morning spent with Helen & Chloe.

We got up early to meet at Woodhouse Moor park run where we ran independently and then met afterwards at the church for a coffee. Unfortunately, I got confused and waited in the church whereas Chloe & Helen were waiting at the finish line. Sorry guys!

Well done to Chloe for getting back to running after her travels & to Helen for her best time at Park run this year.

We then went to Silver Park to litter pick, the place was full of litter so we filled 5 bags full of rubbish. There's more to do, so we may head there on Wednesday to finish the job.
