Anyone for tea?

Tuesday 24th August 2021

Written by Tracey Dean

I arrived to find lots of people waiting with anticipation to enjoy being fed and entertained. I went through to the room where the tea was being held to help fill the cake stands with a wide range of sandwiches, cakes and scones. Every table were given a bowl of clotted cream, jam and butter. There was a singer, Dawn Gracie, singing standards of the 40's and 50's to help the time fly even quicker. After finishing their food we then provided copious amounts of tea, coffee and squash for all. Everyone who had come had a wonderful afternoon. That included the baby to the older people. After everyone had left the tables were cleared and put away. The teenagers who helped make the sandwiches and prepare some of the cakes were very enthusiastic and they left with big smiles on their faces.

Sunday starts with a great run

Sunday 24th March 2019

Written by Katie Carew-Robinson (she/her)

Our sunny Sunday started with 6 of us at Great Run Local at Lakeside North Harbour. We welcomed Richard from GoodGym Bristol. Tony chased down the small child at the front of the 2km, I ran-marshaled the 2km to make sure the youngsters and staff from Enableability got round OK and Charlotte, Richard, Maura and Judy all completed 2 laps of the lake for a 5km.

From there we headed round to Hilsea Lido where we met up with a few more of the GoodGym team. Along with the gang from Enableability, our task was to sand and paint the picnic benches in lovely bright colours. Some of which we wore home on our clothes. Judy (I think) won the GG prize for most covered in paint by the end. Closely followed by Tony who proudly announced he hardly got any on him whilst everyone else pointed out where it was on his clothes.

Louisa had to miss out on the post task cuppa as she was heading off to work but the rest of us helped support the local business by sampling various hot drinks and cakes!

A great task as always at the Lido and one we will probably be finishing off when we visit on 3 April. Sign up here to join us on that day.

We're a dab hand at litter picking

Monday 18th February 2019

Written by Katie Carew-Robinson (she/her)

It was a rainy start to half term but that didn't stop 7 intrepid GoodGym runners from gathering at the Charles Dickens Activity Centre to lend a hand with the EnableAbility Half Term Activities.

Tony headed up the popular running group option, ably assisted by Alex, Charlotte & Lucy. They were joined by 15 staff and young people and they headed out to do the clockwise loop of the centre and finished up at Buckingham Green. Judy and Jen came along with me and the smaller walking group (aka team dab) and we cleared the south side of Lake Road. Between us all we managed to fill 5 bin bags of rubbish in less than 45 minutes. We found socks, a hat, a picnic bag and an old building sign amongst the usual drinks cans, cigarette butts and crisps packets. We also learnt the dab and were very impressed with Lucy's ability to floss!

We then headed back in to the dry of the sports hall for a throw about and runabout. We found out what everyone's favourite sandwich was and then finished up with 2 games of very competitive noughts and crosses.

Great morning, great work from the team as always!
