On the dark side of the spoon

Bournemouth Report written by Caprice McWilliams

What a great turn out for tonight's session! Runners Graeme, Mohammed, Daryl, Caprice, Milly, Emma, Sophie and newbie Harry met for the Group Run to the session. They were joined by more GoodGymers at the task, Eleanor, Luke and newbie Julya It was lovely to meet Harry and Julya and they weren't afraid to get stuck in! They were met by Dot at The Well Coffee Lounge, she had a list of jobs to get through and the group got to it! Tonight's session was for all lighting to be taken down and cleaned, so before they could get cracking Dot switched off all the main lights, just to be safe. We had Team Clean which consisted of Milly Emma and Sophie who removed all the side lights and scrubbed them clean. Eleanor, Graeme and Daryl then placed the side lights back all clean and shiny. Luke got to work clearing out and cleaning the fridge. Daryl, Harry, Graeme and Mohammed were in charge of safely removing the large globe lightshades for the Team Clean to scrub and dry. Eleanor was in charge of sorting the house plants, stripping away the dried leaves and she was eventually joined but Mohammed who helped sweep and tidy. Daryl and Julya removed all the old fairy lights with Caprice lending and hand. Caprice got some good action shots of the group. They were there for an hour but so much was achieved, even if it was performed in very low lighting! Dot was happy with our efforts and it looks as through they would love our help again in the future. Watch this space!

The stain ingredient

Bournemouth Report written by Caprice McWilliams

It was round two tonight helping Friends Of Boscombe Chine Gardens. The runners Graeme, Mohammed, Janet, Daryl and Caprice ran to the session with Charlotte arriving by foot. Last time the team painted the front of the community cabin, tonight's task was to paint the sides. Firstly, the group got to work dusting away the cobwebs and prepping prior to staining the wood. Once prepped Daryl, Charlotte and Caprice got to work painting one side and Mohammed, Graeme and Janet got stuck in painting the other side. With six GoodGymers, Jane and Rosemary working hard, it didn't take long until both sides were finished. Just the back of the cabin to stain, we shall return on Tuesday 27th August to finish the job. We hope to see you there!

Wood it be magic!!

Bournemouth Report written by Caprice McWilliams

So the rain held off for tonight's session and what a fun session it was! Runners Graeme, Daryl and Caprice met at King's Park for the group run to the task. Eleanor made her own way their with a run along the seafront, literally on the sand! We love her determination. Tonight's session was to help The Friends of Boscombe Chine Garden clean and paint their wooden hut located in the community gardens. The runners were greeted by Jane and Rosemary who had already started clearing away the overgrown bamboo and shrubs. Graeme, Daryl and Caprice got to work clearing away the dust and cobwebs. Eleanor arrived ready to start the good bit.... painting!! Starting with the front of the hut, Daryl and Eleanor tackled one side, whilst Caprice and Graeme painted the other. It's amazing how much they achieved, the GoodGymers, Jane and Rosemary successfully finished the front part of the hut, it looked amazing and the gang will return Monday 5th August to attempt another side of the cabin.

To-ing and Hoe-ing

Bournemouth Report written by Bournemouth runner

Six Goodgymmers, Graeme, Roger, Paul, Daryl, Keith and Lea, turned up at St Aldhelmā€™s church. Welcome to Graeme, this was his first official Goodgym task, he did one or two unofficial tasks before. It was Rogerā€™s second official task. Always nice to get new people involved! So we got to the church to help clear the garden of weedsā€¦ lots of weeds there were, but no gardener! His name being David Jokes, we wondered: is this the joke? But Paul and Vicar to the rescue: Paul knows the church and got the vicar who then came and told us what you do and we got the tools we needed. After a while a very apologetic David arrived. He had obviously had a few more than ā€œforty winksā€! We worked for a good 90 minutes in perfect weather conditions and got lots done! Graeme learned a lot about deadheading Sissiā€¦eh what?! He learned to deadhead them but not their proper nameā€¦ just goes to show you donā€™t need to be able to name the plant to deadhead it. Which also goes for weedingā€¦ but you do need to know whether something is a weed or notā€¦ oops we may have pulled out a few plants rather than weedsšŸ˜±šŸ¤£! Anyway gardens being gardens: thereā€™s plenty more to do, so keep your eye for new dates! Thanks everyone for doing another Goodgym deed!
