X-stream bucket-chucking

Bromley Report written by Mark Gilyead (he/him)

A bit of a humid one this evening, half of us met at the Bridge House for some favourite letters (S, T, O, O & D - in case you were wondering) and running, and half met at the task.

This evening we were helping out in Cator Park where the willow arch was weeping a bit, so we refreshed it with some water from the stream.

Sarah and Linda did some expert bucket chucking to scoop out water and deposit it into vessels that some of us fed to the willow arch and other beds.

Meanwhile Stephen & Shauna were mulching one of the beds with some woodchip.

Ace work, team ๐Ÿ‘

Bench presses before breakfast

Bromley Report written by Cat

6 GoodGymmers turned up bright and early on Saturday morning to help the Penge Festival team set up for their opening fete. First up, we got both a physical and mental workout figuring out the easiest way to carry some very heavy wooden picnic benches from Goldsmiths Arms to the fete site on Royston Fields. We were then set to work by Maureen, one of the festival organisers, who had us erecting gazebos, making seating areas out of hay bales and using bunting and festoon poles to construct an ever so slightly lopsided stage area for the dog show and belly dancers. Just your average weekend in Penge, then!

Tired from our workout, we wrapped up at 9.45am, but not before taking the opportunity to put up some GG flyers on the community notice board.

I feel like chicken run-night!

Bromley Report written by Mark Gilyead (he/him)

Anyone remember the 90โ€™s TV ad?

I get a chick out of you

First up, we named ourselves and our favourite chicken-y thing from creme eggs to spatchcock to the rooster whoโ€™s been waking Catherine up all day!

We also welcomed Mohammed to the crew ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ So great to have you with us.

Our task was a brand new one for the folks at Dorset Road Allotment. Theyโ€™ve got an old and overgrown chicken run which they want removed so that they can use the space for community activities.

We met Jaime and Ann from the committee who equipped us with tools from screwdrivers to bolt cutters to shears and we headed round to the chicken run.

It was huge. Harry was convinced something other than the nettles and brambles lived in there. ๐Ÿ‘น

We cracked on with various tasks:

โœ‚๏ธ Trimming back the nettles and brambles

๐Ÿ›  Cutting the netting down and rolling it up

๐Ÿ’ช Yanking off some big corrugated panels

๐Ÿ“ข Moral support

It was kinda dangerous work but everyone got safely stuck in.

I think Mohammed won the prize for energy input! ๐Ÿ†

A half-dozen kilometres, some beautiful golden hour snaps from Cat, and a good deed in the bag.

Nice one team ๐Ÿ’ช

Hitting the benchmark

Bromley Report written by Mark Gilyead (he/him)

Getting hench, drenched and edging to the bench, GoodGym Bromley smashed it this evening in pretty grim conditions.

Thankfully our jog was perfectly pleasant as we set off from the Bridge House. Today we made up for a lack of Easter session by naming our favourite eggs from fried quails eggs to Cadbury's creme.

We swung by Cator Park's freshly planted Tiny Forest and a beautiful surprise display of tulips and daffodils we installed on our way to meet Millie.

We split into two groups to tackle a couple of tasks:

๐Ÿ’ฆ Soaking the willow arch, with scooped up water from the river. Some new stems had been planted so water helps them bed in.

๐Ÿ’ช Edging the paths to widen them.

The rain came soon after we started and it got muddy pretty quick but we managed to get the willow arch watered and edging all the way to the bench.

Ace stuff.
