On that blustery wet summer day, I joined George and Valeria for a GoodGym mission from the Phoenix Cinema to Martin Primary School in East Finchley. Despite the unusual weather conditions, we tackled the large pile of woodchip for the school path. The Orchard looked promising, with plenty of apples on the trees. Armed with a wheelbarrow, two wheelie bins, shovels, and a rake, we patched up holes in the forest paths and improved areas under the trees. During our efforts, we also had a chat with John, who facilitates after-hours use of the school. keep running walking or cycling and doing good.

The weather is turnip cold and it was grape to have an indoor mission this afternoon!

Valeria, Laura and Cloud lemonstrated to be in full form with a non-stop volunteering shift from 3.30 to 5pm !

Disclosure; The volunteers were offered a T break halfway through but were so determined that answered back with a "lettuce get on with it!" ... so, beet it, then!

Today's task was to unload two full pallets containing a variety of supplies; washing up liquid, shampoo, deodorants, instant soup, tofu... it seemed impossible at the beginning of the shift but we got it done in no thyme

Valeria and Cloud stayed behind for a quick cuppa and a catch up with the Food Bank Aid volunteers.

peas & loaf

We arrived, a heathy group of 7 Goodgymers (Valeria, Niki Jay Tailor , Cloud and Antonio) and two new members who joined our Barnet group today, so a round of applause to Josh and Alejandra. It was also great to meet Danny from GoodGym Brent! Today’s community task was no mean feat. In spite of the record turnout (there were many others who attended from the surrounding area) the battalion of volunteers present had an intense time digging out old bricks from the undergrowth, pruning, weeding and laying down wood chippings to improve the paths along this beautiful tiny forest (not the Tiny forest where we also go). Then the heavens opened and we all got exceedingly wet. In spite of that, because we are Good gym Barnet, we had a good laugh and got lot’s of work done! So let’s give a hand to all of us who turned up. And a big thank you to Richard, Maria and Karen who organised the task. With this level of turnout we are going to need more garden tools next time!
