Niki, Pete, Darren, Cheska and I all met at Marlpit Community Garden to help out with whatever gardening tasks were required. With temperatures of 30°C throughout the day, we were already pretty warmed up and grateful for a slight breeze in the community garden.

We met with Mahesh on arrival and he told us our task for tonight was to flatten a mound of dirt which had previously been used to stop the pond from flooding. Now that a new flood defence was in place they wanted this particular mound flattened ready for a fence to be put around the pond - making it safer for everyone to enjoy. After collecting our tools we followed Pete to the mound, as he had already worked on this job during a previous community mission. While we were there Mahesh told us all about the wonderful work the organisation does to bring the community together through gardening. He was particularly proud of the courgettes which were growing nicely at one end of the plot.

Although it sounds like a fairly simple task, this turned out to be really good workout! Plenty of water breaks were needed! However, we got the job done in good time and Mahesh seemed pleased with the help we had provided. After tidying away our tools, we all headed off in our various directions, either running or cycling home.

Thanks to Pete for taking photos and to Mahesh for having us at the community gardens.
