Spring, Shovels, Sweat & Soil

Saturday 22nd March

Written by Eloise

On a lovely spring morning, 9 GoodGymers, 2 Vision Norfolk volunteers and 1 enthusiastic puppy took on the challenge of shifting 6 tonnes of soil - that’s the weight of 1 elephant or about 12 horses. Armed with jaunty wheelbarrows, we transported the soil across Marlpit Community Gardens into Vision Norfolk’s three newly built raised planters. Thanks to everyone’s hard work, the planters are now ready to grow a mix of potatoes, seasonal vegetables, and fresh salad. A warm welcome to Wayne, who joined us for his first mission!

Stop the Rot

Monday 5th June 2023

Written by Steven Hitcham

Tonight we visited the lovely Marlpit Community Gardens, on what was a rather chilly June evening. The 4.5km run there sure warmed us up a little though!

During the winter they had cut back lots of willow trees, so our task was to collect the branches and transport them to an area where they could be stood up so they don't rot. So basically a lot of lifting was required... we definitely got our strength training in.

Fork sake

Monday 27th March 2023

Written by Steven Hitcham

It task was quite a long distance this evening (4.25km each way!) so we got a good workout just getting to and from the task.

We returned the tranquil Marlpit Community Gardens for the first time this year.

There was two task: 1) turn over compost. 2) clear an overgrown garden bed.

Before we new it, the team were forking and shoveling until their heart's content. The task owner said it would have taken him a week to do it on his own.

Give it a tug

Monday 4th July 2022

It was one of our longer runs this evening, 4km each way! It's always worth it for the trip to Marlpit Community Gardens, it was a lovely evening in beautiful surroundings.

Alina was completing her 25th good deed!

The main task was to clear out the weeds from the Asparagus bed... you can see from the before and after shot, what an incredible transformation job everyone did.

There was also some grass turning so it doesn't rot.

Another lovely evening with great people.

Weed Are The Champions

Monday 30th May 2022

Written by Steven Hitcham

This evening's visit to Marlpit Community Garden was our first there this year.

We took the scenic route there via Marriott's Way, which was a good 4.5km each way... definitely got us working up a sweat.

The location of the task is in such a lovely setting and we were set with the challenge of clearing some weeds in the Gooseberry area. I've never seen so many Gooseberries in all my life.

After 40 minutes we managed to fill 6 wheelbarrow's worth of weeds, which were then transported to the compost pile.

We couldn't leave before we were allowed to pick some lovely fresh rhubarb to take home.
