Apple-y Ever After

Monday 15th September

Written by Ian Gostling

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, its off to work we go!

Tonight 7 GoodGymers ran or cycled 6km to support Marlpit Community Garden.

Organisers Tish & Mark met us at the gates with 7 wheelbarrows loaded with wood chip.

We were lead through the allotments past beautiful sunflowers and apple trees, to an area 250m away to unload the wood chip onto a new path.

Winds chimes whistled a happy tune as we made regular shuttle runs of wood chip, walking approx 3-4km across the evening.

After an hour we were rewarded with juicy red apples to choose from, even Snow White would have been tempted!

Goodness Rakeness Me

Monday 14th July

Written by Steven Hitcham

On another quaint evening at Marlpit Community Gardens, GoodGym lent a hand or few.

Stephen had the grand job or repositioning a mass pile of horse manure, which he made light work of!

The rest of us were raking up piles of the cut long grass.

Congratulations to Liz who was completing her 10th GoodGym deed.

To finish the evening, they allowed us to pick some berries for self consumption.

We made good intoads

Monday 12th May

Written by Steven Hitcham

It couldn't have been a more tranquil evening, as we visited Marlpit Community Gardens as the sun started to lower and the cattle grazing in the adjacent field.

We had a tough task on our hands as we started to make inroads to move a pile of bark to the other end of the gardens (about 200 metres away).

There were 7-8 wheelbarrows and it was a grueling task of shoveling the bark into the barrows and transporting them before unloading.

Liz discovered a Toad in the pile of bark, which was then safely transferred to the pond area.

Spring, Shovels, Sweat & Soil

Saturday 22nd March

Written by Eloise

On a lovely spring morning, 9 GoodGymers, 2 Vision Norfolk volunteers and 1 enthusiastic puppy took on the challenge of shifting 6 tonnes of soil - that’s the weight of 1 elephant or about 12 horses. Armed with jaunty wheelbarrows, we transported the soil across Marlpit Community Gardens into Vision Norfolk’s three newly built raised planters. Thanks to everyone’s hard work, the planters are now ready to grow a mix of potatoes, seasonal vegetables, and fresh salad. A warm welcome to Wayne, who joined us for his first mission!

This evening saw us return to Marlpit Community Garden on a lovely calm summer evening.

The team split into two group. Group 1 were clearing weeds from around the fruit trees, and Group 2 were clearing a vegetable plot.

At the end if the evening we were kindly invited to take some rhubarb, redcurrants and gooseberries.
