Report written by Yianny (he / him)
We had a bumper group of runners this evening, all eager to find out what was in store with this week's task. Our social cause was to honour the memory of Maud Arbery whose life was sadly taken while out for an evening run.
The Lambeth community ran 3.5kms - 2.23 miles to mark the tragic day of his passing (Feb 23 2020) - and did 28 squats at the halfway point to mark what would have been his 28th Birthday this month.
And so on to more positive things, who was the mysterious beneficiary of tonight's task? Well what more worthy cause than GoodGym itself?! That's right, we are aiming to put Lambeth GG back where it was pre pandemic with 30+ runners at the group run, Missions throughout the week and hopefully multiple group runs to cover the whole of the Lambeth area! To do that we need more GoodGymers and to get those we needed flyers of course, and the team at GG central came through big time, with high quality postcard style adverts featuring our very own (and soon to be world renowned) Michael!
We were delighted to welcome along Hannah for her first ever GG run, and lo and behold she discovered both a fellow colleague from her current work site and one from her previous site on the run as well - #smallworld/GoodGym - great to have you with us Hannah!
The group returned from the run to the area immediately surrounding our base at Papa's Park and began posting in earnest, earlier in the evening we wondered if we could get through so many flyers but in the end we almost exhausted the entire 3 bundles (although there is some discussion as to whether Sam and Joao were flyering or went into someone's home for a cup of tea and biscuits as they were the only pair to return with any spares.....)
We finished pretty quickly so it was time for a beloved fitness session at Papa's before a cool down and chance to share all the exciting upcoming GG activities - check out the website or your weekly fitness email - such as Lambeth training sessions (see here) GoodGym summer Rounders (18th June) and the Lambeth x York Weekender!
Big thanks as well to Effie and Katie who did a walking session and grabbed some excellent pics, vids and errr boomerangs....?!
