Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Marieke
We were asked to help Ealing Foodbank move their operations back from St Mellitus' Church to the charity's own building right next door. They were working from the church for a good part of this and last year, with the lovely people from the church allowing the space to be used for a storage and sorting area and for people to queue and receive food parcels. Our job was to move the remaining crates back to the Foodbank's building, as well as fold and store the tables used in the church's storage area. In the meantime a taxi bus had arrived to take away the large set of mobile screens that had been used to create multiple areas in the church's aisles and nave. We had Tom working hard, who joined GoodGym recently, and Shakira, joining us for the first time, welcome Shakira! :) Harvey joined after completing another mission nearby, and with the help of the Ealing Foodbank team, we finished everything in merely 45 minutes, to everyone's amazement. Shakira and myself dropped a few tables over at Hanwell Methodist Church across the road, and we were off.
We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
