A new location for GoodGym Richmond this evening as we headed for a 3.5km run to Strathmore School. This lovely place provides schooling for children with severe learning difficulties and they asked for our help to clean up and sort their sensory garden where children had clearly had a lot of fun with sand, water and equipment!
The welcome couldn't have been warmer from the teachers who met us. They not only called us 'angels' but offered biscuits and hot drinks! Those are all great ways to motivate and the team worked relentlessly for the session to scrub the play areas, sort all of the toys and equipment in the cupboards, scrub down the sun cover and nothing could beat Suze's joy in vacuuming the AstroTurf!
The transformation in just 45mins was really a sight to behold, even in the dark! This is a task that had been impossible for the staff at the school to complete and therefore the play area had been unusable for a while. It is an honour to be part of reopening the area for fun and learning and we are sure the children will love being out there as much as we did!
Strathmore School is a happy, thriving, oversubscribed and growing special school for children and young people aged 4 -19 with severe and complex learning difficulties.
