Report written by Rachel White
...unless there's absolutely nowhere else to stand. We had a rainy run up to the Searchlight Centre on Tuesday. The inclement weather didn't put off our hardy volunteers though. We had a warm up stretch in Fairfield Park led by Sam, a run leader from Richmond, who came to visit and help us out. He got us all warmed up and we ventured off on the route.
Martel met us at the Searchlight Community Centre, an amazing resource for local groups to meet, and showed us around. We were tasked with deep cleaning the kitchen. With so many groups using the centre, it needed a proper scrub so we got to work. Martel, Jade and Rachel got the scrubbing brushes out and set out to lift the layers of muck on the floor. Sabir, Claire, Sam and Julie got to work on the cupboards - emptying them out and giving the insides a good scrub. There wasn't much room so we all worked where we stood, taking care not to step on each other's toes. It was a great task for working on our communication skills and working as a team.
The rain was pretty relentless outside so we huddled in the kitchen whilst we worked on making everything sparkly and clean. Dave and Rachel moved a fridge into a gap in the kitchen and got the bleach out to get rid of the mould that had started to form whilst it was unplugged. In the meantime, Julie had located the source of a particularly whiffy smell in a packed cupboard.
The hour was soon up and we moved back to admire our hard work. Well done, team! Thank you,Rachel, for visiting us from Sheffield and to Sam for helping to lead the group run.

The night wasn't a total washout in the end - we have the kitchen a good washout instead!
