Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by York runner
On another scorching hot Yorkshire evening, 19 runners (plus Nick on a bicycle) came to help save some lavender plants.
We welcomed three new runners at tonight's group run, let's give a massive cheer to: * Kristie * Ed * Teresa
Leanne was our ninja back-marker tonight in her fancy pants black GoodGym t-shirt. Do enough good deeds and you can join the awesome black t-shirt crew (also known as, err.. Leanne).
We zig-zagged north, doing some calf-raised squats and wall-sits en route. At the top of Burton Green we were met by the lovely Kristina who - amazingly - had brought exactly the right amount of shears for us to use.
Our job was to cut all the grass around the lavender plants whilst being extremely careful not to cut any of the lavender. Destruction, we can do, but delicate and precise chopping meant that the whole gang went very quiet whilst they concentrated.
Back up pun, 'Britney Shears - Snip me baby one more time'! - excellent suggestion by Ellie G
Luckily, lavender is very distinctive and didn't require too much horticultural knowledge.
If it's purple, don't cut it - tip of the night
This was something of a sedate task compared to our usual madness, but a bit of light relief on such a warm evening. Everyone was very content cutting their little patches of grass and we only had a couple of teeny squeals and manic cutting at the two minute countdown.
With the task complete, we went through a bit of press-up technique ready for the August press-up challenge. We got through fence-presses, fence-presses with a twist, normal press-ups, arm lifts, mountain-climbers and burpees.. all before a warm run back to base.
Next week is going to be a physically tough 7k - bring your game faces!
