Tonight we went to help out at the George Williams YMCA centre in Southampton for the first time to help them start clearing the garden space which has been uncared for for a while.

We met Karen who explained her vision for the garden. She told us that she would like to see the garden as a space where the young people can come and take pride in, with raised planters growing vegetables they can then take and use in cooking workshops etc. Shes very keen on getting the centre being somewhere that feels like home for those who live there and she had such a wonderful energy and passion we were more than happy to get stuck in.

We were a small but mighty team and when we went around to the garden the immediate challenge was getting in the garden! Brambles abounded as did an awful lot of litter.

We got to work quickly, working hard to clear the entrance space of brambles and debris. Given the scale of the project we focused our efforts on this section for the evening and by the end of the session we could get in the space successfully!

It was a very satisfying session and we look forward to returning soon.
