It was Steph's first "Mission" mission and he ran 10k to reach Mr.D's house in Hounslow. I took the easy option with public transport and walked for 15 minutes to reach there.

Mr.D has cancer and has chemotherapy treatment going on, so his health is not great to maintain the garden. Mr.D welcomed us and showed us his garden and explained to us what needs to be done.

  1. Trimming the hedges
  2. Trimming a tree
  3. Mowing the lawn
  4. Take out the weeds

All the tools were in the shed. There was a strimmer, which we couldn't use as the battery was missing. Later we learned that Mr.D took it out to charge them. But Steph went the manual way and used shears and gave the hedges a better trim.

I started chopping a big branch, which Mr.D already cut, into smaller pieces using a saw and started filling the brown bin. Mr.D gave us 2 green bags to fill if the brown bin was full. I then started trimming down an aromatic tree using loppers to keep it in line with other plants nearby.

Mr.D asked us if we needed any drinks. Steph went with tea and I asked for water and changed my mind and went for tea as well. Steph and I started bagging the branches and dry leaves in the garden when

Mr.D came with a pot of Tea and cookies

We took a short break to enjoy the tea and returned to bagging and trimming. Mr.D then told that a big tree in the back is growing a bit tall and asked if we could reduce the height. I took a ladder and started sawing, it was a bit tough to see as the wind was making the branches tough to hold and the sawdust was going into my eyes and nose. Steph started tidying up the lawn and weeded around the garden. We filled 3 bags, a bin and put the remaining branches into a big basket.

For the finishing touch, Steph gave the lawn a deep trim using the lawn mower meanwhile I took out the brown bin using a long path behind the house. As we are out of bags, we dumped the grass into compost.

Mr.D was very thankful for the job we both had done and expected us to come back for another mission.
