This morning 6 of us made our way from helping at Acton Park Junior Parkrun to The Steam Packet, along Strand on the Green to lend a hand setting up for a community Jubilee Party. Beth, Johnny and Michelle cycled while Alan, Harvey and Kash jogged the 2.5 miles to the Strand.

Strand on the Green community association had organised the event as a community celebration to raise funds for local organisations including the RNLI.

We helped with event set up. Alan, who immediately recognised the lead Coordinator from their uni days was given the all-powerful task of marshalling one of the road closure barriers. The rest of us helped with erecting gazebo’s, tables and chairs for the various stalls hosting games, competitions and food and drink. All was going well when one of the Community organisers suggested we help with hanging bunting. This was no problem for the newly crowned Queen Kash who deftly strung the bunting around the gazebos. Harvey and Michelle on the other hand, were not quite so adept at stringing the red white and blue; within minutes the pile of bunting was one mass of knots.

For almost half an hour we took turns as a five, unravelling the bunting which was so frayed by now that it took all of our persevere and patience not to throw it in the river. We eventually rose to the challenge and breathed a collective sigh of relief. As the party was declared open we celebrated with a hard earned coffee whilst the Chiswick School band kicked the party off with God Save the Queen on steel drums.
