Roger the pastor at Ealing Road Baptist Church had an array of jobs for the seven GoodGymmers out doing good in Hounslow tonight. There was plenty to get done, and we had the extra pressure of a time limit - we had to be in and out before a class started in the hall that evening.
Challenge accepted. Half the gang were in said hall armed with dusters and lint rollers, getting down and dirty and helping clean the chairs in the church hall. They needed a good wiping and dusting off, especially from the casters that had collected little dust bunnies over the year.
The other half were helping to clear out a cupboard. In Rogers own words, he had been ‘a bit of a hoarder’, and true to form the cupboard was full of all sorts of weird and wonderful. Luis and Kash worked together to break down an old storage unit, And there were old boxes, disordered tents and sleeping bags, broken scooters and all sorts that were tidied up and put neatly back into the cupboard in an orderly fashion by Divya.
Kash got to hand with the broom, whilst the rest of us grabbed a duster and some wipes to join Michelle, Chris and Tish in chair cleaning duties. It wasn’t long before the first class-goers started showing up, and Roger called time.
We didn’t quite get all the chairs cleaned, but the cupboard looked great, and Roger said he was more than happy to clean up the dust bunnies that now lived on the church hall floor. I’m sure it won’t be long before he has more jobs lined up for us!
