Report written by Gill (She/her)
Bury Park Community Centre was the starting point for our mission this morning. Kamal, Yasin, Musa and Gill met up to help out the team of volunteers from the council and the Football Club. We're all proud that luton Town have made it to the Premiership but the impact on Local Residents as the club make the football ground ready to receive other clubs in the premiership will be huge - with road closures and building works. So our job was to post letters in all the houses in several of the neighbouring roads. Our route was mapped out and took us along Ash Road to Hampton Road, along Shaftesbury Rd, Down Maple Rd, up Warwick Road North and South and then back down Maple Road to get us over the other side of the stadium. We then leap frogged our way along Wimborne Road, up Shirley Road, down Granville and then completed our posting along Clifton and Butlin Roads.
We were finished in record time, and the council team had not banked on just how efficient Goodgymers are at posting. And the team got to know a bit more of the geography of Luton into the bargain.
Several of the residents we spoke to were excited for Luton and felt that this would bring many benefits, but there were those who were unsure of how the works to improve the grounds would impact the already busy streets of Bury Park. Hopefully we have helped to reassure them.
