The evening began by unloading Bob's car of all the cleaning equipment he's kindly given to the Foodbank. Mops, brooms, buckets, dustpans, brushes and a even a feather duster were unpacked. Chief Officer, Michael, has given you extra "Brownie points", Bob, and these essential tools will be put to use at Moorside and other sites. Thank you! Six Goodgymers then set to work with sweeping the warehouse and giving the front-of-house a vacuum and mop. James took the unenviable task of the bathroom, with a smile under his mask(!) and Emma whizzed round with surface cleaner and cloth, and her usual sparkle and chat! Cleaning done, we then took to the main task of decanting produce from about twenty crates. Having already been weighed in and sorted into produce type, it needed shifting to the racking in date order. Finding use-by dates on tins and packets isn't easy, especially when you're fumbling around with foggy glasses and dim conditions; thank you, Bob, for locating the light switch, and to Ian, for the cheerful loan of a soft cloth (ever the able optician). As an experienced Foodbanker from her GoodGym Norwich days, Rosie was adept at working the system and it was nice to chat about how she's been involved in other volunteer work, and is keen to do more. Well done Rosie! Some of us were teased by a desire for a Fray Bentos pie....all that joyous nutrition in a tin....but we settled for cold drinks, with Ian opting for a soothing banana milk:-) By 8:15pm, we had emptied all the crates which was great. Tomorrow, the Moorside staff should be thrilled to see a cleaner and clearer floor, with sufficient room to receive further food and commodity donations. We took a final, socially distanced snap before heading home. All seemed in agreement, that in these changeable times, it was good to have a purpose to get out, get some exercise, meet friends and do good. Lovely to see you.
