Report written by Anastasia Hancock (she/her)
It may have been our last group run of the year (boo, hiss!!) but we had loads to celebrate (oh yes we did!) and a very festive fitness session (um, he's behind you? Ok that's quite enough of the panto gags).
We started the evening with a bang (quite literally, given the drama on the road behind us). It was brilliant to welcome Mohamed to his first session at Hounslow - great to have you join us!
It was also a special session as it was
Florian's 100th good deed!
That's right, after two years to the day and a very consistent 50 good deeds per year, Florian got his GoodGym wings. That's too many hours of digging, weeding, painting and shoveling to count, not to mention how many miles have been covered in the process! Congratulations and thank you Florian for all your amazing effort and commitment.
We set off on the very short run and walk to the local church where our job for th evening was weeding the paths. We wasted no time getting our gloves on and the weeds out, and it soon looked much neater. The team then moved on the ivy pulling and general tidying, making the area a lot tidier for the community groups who are using the outside space. It is currently being used for different support groups, including stroke survivors, and there are plans to turn it into a therapy garden, so watch this space!
There was just time to pose for a photo before being subject to, I mean enjoying, a festive fitness session. First we had the cracker relay which saw two teams battle it out with a cracker baton, before moving on to the candy cane challenge - a walking lunge race whilst balancing a candy cane. In the end it was a very respectable - and totally legitimate - draw. How about that for some Christmas magic?
Next week we will have a community mission before our Christmas meal, detail to come.
If anybody is free this Sunday Hounslow FoodBox are trying to raise some much needed funds for Christmas and they've had a surge in requests for help. They are putting on a stall on Sunday at the Cheese Market and would love some help shaking tins, handing out leaflets and spreading the word. Please sign up here to find all the details.
Keep on spreading that festive cheer, doing good and getting active!
