After a panicked text message from Foodcycle yesterday, I was enlisted to help with the food collection as they had been unable to get any other volunteers to help.
This meant escaping from work early (sorry boss) and taking a trip first to Sainsbury's. They were again short staffed , so weren't able to locate the usual food stuffs for the Food Cycle project, but were able to fill up the trolly with a large bag of mixed pastries and a bag of bread and some bread rolls. I then went on to Aldi hoping for a better haul of produce. Unfortunately all they had in the trolly was a box of cut flowers. I was rather nervous about how the cooking team would be able to put together a three course meal for 30 guests but hopeful that they would use their imaginations (along with some store cupboard staples) to come up with the goods).
I then delivered my meagre trolly load to the awaiting project leader with many apologies. But it was all gratefully received, and thinking hats caps donned as I unloaded the food.
