Report written by Helen
Nine summer-lovin' runners came out for litter picking duty tonight. We congratulated Tav on his sub-19 parkrun PB, noted that Ian, Katherine and Michelle had conquered North Hill, not once, not twice, but TEN TIMES, and we wished Dan huge luck for his mountainous trip next week in Africa. The temperature was already scorching, so we just did a brief warm up (phew!) and quickly headed off to Harwich Road to find the Oaktree Community Centre. We were given a warm welcome by Mike on arrival, who dished out tools and bin bags and explained the task. Split into two fab teams of four, the GoodGymers then scoured the perimeter for rubbish. It was a beautiful evening for wandering across the playing field, and lots of local residents were out doing the same. Obviously, we found time to have a go on the play equipment too, and even got a bit dizzy on the round swingy thing. (Ok, maybe that was just me). Amongst the plogger's findings this evening were: empty drinks cans, sweetie wrappers, a knee brace, a knife (which we disposed of properly afterwards), plastic wiring, plastic packaging, and 21 pence. It was a pretty good haul, and we were happy to pose for a photo at the end, so that Mike could share news of our efforts. We zoomed back to Leisureworld using a different route, and explored the outdoor fitness equipment (plus a few laps of the triangle) to build up our fitness at the end of our session. Thank you to everyone who joined us tonight, you did an amazing job. Helen 9, out.
