Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Alan Armstrong
A busy morning for Michelle and me with two GoodGym missions completed on a glorious sunny morning. After volunteering at Acton Junior parkrun and a leisurely coffee afterwards with the GoodGym Ealing team, we headed back to Chiswick. Kudos to Michelle for managing to maintain conversation whilst running, whereas I had the less strenuous role of accompanying cyclist.
We arrived right on time at the Comboni Centre, a sacred quiet space open to all. We had been asked to mow their lawns and remove the weeds and dandelions that had sprung up over the summer.
Michelle started off with some weeding whilst I took first shift with the power mower. First lawn area cleared with the trickiest thing proving to be mastering the fiddly process of emptying the mower's cuttings box.
Swapping roles, Michelle definitely displayed superior technique with the mower and soon had a larger lawn area looking like a Premier League pitch.
Michelle had also shown better judgement in clothing and I regretted my choice of jeans and black T-shirt as the sun beat down. Fortunately the Sisters kindly provided us with cold water bottles as we took a welcome mid-task break.
I took another turn on the mower as we finished the task at the front of the house leaving all of the grounds looking much neater.
A good mow-ning's work! Look forward to coming back to help out at the Comboni on a Group Run on 28th August which you can sign up for here: https://www.goodgym.org/happenings/helping-with-the-comboni-garden-project-49b3e2bc-9199-4423-8305-851895cae376
