It was national flying ant day and it was Wimbledon and we were worldcup hungover, but that didn't stop 13 runners stepping up for their Wednesday dose of good.
Freshly triumphant from Team Hounslow's recent inaugural appearance at the amazing GoodGym Olympics on Saturday, where we placed a fantastic 7th out of 18 or so teams - brilliant work everyone! - we saluted the sporting legends. Just don't mention the three-legged race, or the strava profiles of certain team members on their way home...
We cheered the fantastic Jenni who is soaring through her week with an unbroken four straight days of GoodGym, and reminded everybody that next Thursday is the GoodGym monthly social in Wandsworth - be there or be decidedly quadrilateral.
After a quick cocktail - related discussion, we smashed out a warm up, and headed off on the 2k run down to Chiswick House. This beautiful place is a national trust property, so while it is free to everybody, it relies on donations and volunteers to keep it that way.
We've been pricked by a rose in the rain (*thanks Jenni!)
We were met by head gardener Geraldine, who told us about tomorrow's London in Bloom competition which Chiswick House has entered, and gave us a quick tutorial on how to properly deadhead a rose. Secateurs in hand, we got stuck in, and forty minutes later the bushes were looking much tidier, and we had learned a new skill. What a Wednesday Brucie bonus!
With a increasingly threatening sky we headed back to Turnham Green to do our fitness session, but by the time we got there we had been soaked by an insistent yet refreshing downpour. Sadly there are no retractable roofs at the park, so we decided to do a Wimbledon and called off play.
Nevermind, next week's session will have to be twice as tough! Go on, sign up for it here
Until then, happy running! x
