On a darkening evening ten GoodGymers made their way deep, deep into the forest...
Much like the eponymous tale of a young girl and a sly wolf, we wore red, but that's where the similarity ends. For unlike Little Red Riding Hood, we wielded saws rather than a basket, and instead of hungry wolves, we were on the look out for wandering hedgehogs.
Our job was to chop away the invasive trees, especially the holly, that are blocking sunlight and stopping other plants thriving.
So we grabbed our tools, commenting, 'Goodness, what big saws you have.' All the better to chop trees with, Chris the lead gardener responded.
We sawed and felled, shouts of TIMBER echoed through the woods.
Just as night fell we gathered our mattocks and saws and made our way out of the depths of the forest and back to the safety of obelisk. Thankfully there were no sightings of hungry wolves, but we did spot one beautiful Vizsla and a sausage dog with a glowing collar.
If you'd like to continue the adventure this weekend, we have two community missions going on. Join Michelle to rake the wild meadow on Turnham Green folowing its seasonal haircut, and then why not pop along to Feltham to clear a way to the river? With all this GG activity going on, it promises to be a fairy tale weekend...
